Forget those big monsters or gloomy castles, the real horror sometimes actually lies right in… the office toilet. Toilet 8 does not try to act fancy; this game is proud of its “mindlessness” and ridiculousness when throwing you into an endless loop in a public restroom. I once thought myself alert enough to recognize all changes, but believe me, the feeling of scrutinizing each water pipe while the heart beats fast because of fear… a fart sound really is an unbearable experience that you are unlikely to find anywhere else.
LIMINAL SPACE LOOP MECHANICS
This game fully inherits the spirit of the Japanese-style “liminal loop” game genre but is seasoned with a bit more salty spice. You will have to go back and forth a familiar toilet corridor to the point of boredom, where alertness is the only weapon to escape from the endless loop.
- Observe every detail: Each smallest moving object or a strange reflection are all signs showing something is wrong.
- Make your choice: If feel “smelly” not okay then must turn back immediately, while if everything still normal then just like that proceed.
- Short intense sessions: With duration from 15 to 60 minutes, the game forces you to concentrate intensely before patience is completely “flushed away”.
RIDICULOUS ANOMALY DETECTION
The appeal of Toilet 8 lies in the list of anomalies that both cause fear and are funny to an unbelievable point. Sometimes you will encounter extremely subtle changes, but also there are times the game throws straight into your face ridiculous things making the player only know to freeze for 5 seconds.
- Listen for sounds: Water pipe leaking sound or “gas release” sound from hell will be haunting warning signals for you.
- Spot the absurdity: The posters change or the items suddenly deform force you to scrutinize carefully each square millimeter of corridor.
- Expect the unexpected: A small mistake in judgment is also enough to make you receive a result both horror and “smelly” according to the true literal meaning.
