If you have been sick and tired of airplane shooting game titles of the “superman” style with infinite ammunition and flying regardless of physics laws, then GS4: Realistic Air Combat will be a cold splash of water full of refreshment. This game is not for pilots who like pressing buttons randomly. It is a real air combat simulator, where each pull of the control stick must be traded by careful calculation of aerodynamics. When for the first time sitting in the cockpit, I was truly overwhelmed before the way that the game simulates the heaviness of the aircraft body when reaching the stall threshold. The feeling of conquering the sky in this game is extremely “satisfying” because it relies on pure skill.
REALISTIC FLIGHT AERODYNAMICS
The game builds an extremely strict physics foundation, forcing you must understand clearly your aircraft before wanting to join the fight. Every parameter from lift force to drag force all impact directly on your flight path.
- Realistic energy management: The maintaining of velocity and altitude becomes a life-or-death problem when you must balance between thrust and aircraft weight.
- Supersonic flight effects: When crossing the sound threshold, the shockwave effects and supersonic booms are recreated extremely vividly.
- Aircraft limit constraints: You will have to be wary of G-force and altitude limits if not wanting your aircraft to lose control.
MODERN COMBAT ENGAGEMENT
Air combat in the game is a brain battle of technology and tactical vision, where electronic systems on the aircraft play the pivotal role. I realize that surviving through a SAM (surface-to-air missile) site is much more difficult than just simply chasing enemies.
- Advanced missile systems: Players must get used to the use of heat-seeking missiles or radar-guided missiles in BVR scenarios.
- Radar warning receiver: The RWR warning system will continuously scream helping you identify threats to promptly release defensive measures.
- Tactical countermeasure deployment: Using flares and decoys at the right time is the only way for you to escape from tricky target lock phases from the opponent.
